Journey to a Whole New You
A lot can happen to a person in a year! Looking back at myself one year ago from this day I see a woman who had spent the past two months with chronic strep and sinus infection, run down to the ground with fatigue, failing miserably to train for a half marathon less than a month away, and weighing near my heaviest ever – right where I weighed nine months pregnant with my youngest son who will soon be eight years old!
What was my turning point? A couple of things. I went back to the basics of treating my illness with natural supplements and practices recommended in the past by my functional medicine doctor and I was introduced to a new way of eating.
Knowing I could not push myself through the half marathon race, I didn’t. I did participate but was fortunate enough to come alongside a group of women on the course from out of state. They were struggling with injuries and the unusually warmer temperature than they were used to in training. I ended up walk over half of the 13.1-mile distance, enjoying wonderful conversations along the way. This set the bar for my slowest half marathon time on record and you know what? I did not care! Even though my endurance was not up to par and my body out of shape – it felt great just to get out and move!
Shortly after the half marathon race in early May 2018, I was introduced to something I had never heard of before – intermittent fasting. Two men I follow on social media who specialize in diabetes (I’ve shown signs for pre-diabetes in the past) presented the different protocols of how to practice intermittent fasting. The concept sounded interesting. I continued to research the topic on the internet after the webinar ended and started to practice a longer fast between dinner and eating the next day increasing it slowly for a couple of weeks.
In the midst of my research, I came across a woman (Brittiney who later became my coach) promoting a company called FASTer Way To Fat Loss® created by Amanda Tress. The company promotes intermittent fasting along with carb cycling and macro tracking. I started to follow Brittney and the company on social media. Brittiney was promoting her next six-week FASTer Way round the starting the end of May. I was so intrigued, finally admitting to myself that I needed to try something different, I pulled the trigger and signed up!
Best decision I could have ever made to help point me in the right direction! Fast forward to today. I am down 35 lbs, have changed my body composition by dumping fat, and am more energized than ever! I am successfully training for the same half marathon from a year ago which is in a couple of weeks. More to come of my adventures and how I have arrived at where I am today.
